Isn't it ... bonkers?? I forgot that it was a series and it looks like the other installments don't exist anymore. It took a while to even track it down again but it was the first time I realized that very very very few of us have any idea how intertwined every aspect of our lives is with all of these businesses. It's not just about buying your books from Bookshop (if only!)
Thank you so much for the inspiration. The choice matters, and going public by telling others that you did it and why you did it matters a great deal. When I feel scared, a remember a friend, a black woman friend, gently reminding me that I am experiencing a tiny bit of what it feels like living in her body rather than mine - for her entire life. So I remind myself to take baby steps at getting brave and look for others who are putting themselves out there - with a capital A or not.
For sure. I'm super aware that (seemingly) having the option to do something or not is completely wrapped up in the various privileges I have. And most of us doing nothing has led us to this place, too.
I'm proud of you. I canceled my Post subscription too, but I still read the headlines for free. Is that half-assed of me? My "activism" consists of reposting blistering takedowns on BlueSky, and sending postcards to trump reminding him he's the world's most loathed human being, and asking him what putin's dick tastes like. It's a start.
That poem at the end...wow. ❤️🩹
It's just perfect. (and hello "great friend"!)
Another great newsletter! Thanks for linking to that piece about quitting the tech giants, what a good read.
