Tasty stuff while I'm away

I’m taking a week or two away from the newsletter while I write and file a couple of pieces I should’ve written and filed long before now. In the meantime, some tasty non-depressing stuff to read and listen to, along with a couple of updates:
NEW FROM ME
• I’ve got a Seussian take on The Great Resignation and this one’s for the ladies! Appropriately it went up Saturday morning which, as we all know, is the only good part of the week. Find it on The New Yorker.
• Last week’s newsletter is excerpted in the great newsletter GLORIA (that I now subscribe to)! I’m thrilled they found me and I’m thrilled I found them. And I sure do wish I had an editor all the time. Anyway, you can read the now sharper version of my essay here.
THINGS FROM ELSEWHERE
• It’s Been a Minute With Sam Sanders on NPR. “'Jackass' star Johnny Knoxville has nothing left to prove” I definitely don’t occasionally post Johnny Knoxville-related content because I used to … “know” “him” 😏 … back when he was just P.J. Clapp and he worked in a college bar and I was just your average binge drinking slut and all I’m saying is it’s fun to remember being young and carefree !!!
So many great humor pieces last week and only now am I realizing that they’re all thematically aligned. Three of my favorites were all on McSweeney’s:
• “Our Inclusive Company Invites People with Disabilities to Apply for Jobs and Get Systematically Rejected” by Jill Feder. Sidebar: The writer of this piece is autistic and I’d love to see more humor pieces from writers on the spectrum, please.
• “Dragon Hoarding Enormous Piles of Treasure Seeks Unpaid Intern” by Maeve Dunigan.
Qualifications:
-Must display extreme reverence for shiny things
-Must have previous social media experience
-Must be able to ascend 30-foot pile of pure gold
-Must not be related to, friends of, or in any way affiliated with the Knights of The Round Table
• “Dolly Parton’s ‘9 to 5’ Adjusted for Late-Stage Capitalism” by Josh Baumgart.
Working 8 to 6, get replaced by automation
Barely gettin’ by, shouldn’t wages match inflation?
Piss in a bottle while your boss buys a rocket
Vote to make a change, and they turn around and block it
BUT YOU SEEMED SO HAPPY is out now. You can find my copywriting and creative direction work here. You can find my writing-writing work here. You can find me on Twitter. You can find me on Instagram. Please do not find me in real life, I’m busy doing the writing I said I was already doing.
