I love this phrasing of focusing on “the thrill of the hunt, the process” followed by “the reallocation, the sharing”.

What a world we could exist in, if we all found a way to embrace the use of our skills with this kind of mindset.

Thank you so much for this comment. It took a LOT of work and frankly being forced into getting rid of other collections before this to get to this point. But I'm genuinely happy it happened. I have such a different relationship to my stuff now, and I still love stuff so so so much (a running joke between a BFF and I). What I've learned to ask myself when I want to hold onto something is this: "is having this thing in storage or in a box just so I can say it's mine the best use of this beautiful/cool/interesting thing?"

I kept a selection of my absolute favorite things and they'll be used, books will be on shelves, artwork hung. As for the rest: I unloaded boxes and stacks of these things into the shop owners' vehicle yesterday and I felt light and happy. That's how you know. x
